Factor VIII Amino Acid Sequence Lineup:
Four Mammalian Species

Here is presented the amino-acid lineup derived from four species of mammal:

The lineup can be visualised in several ways, depending on the capabilities of your computer.

  • An ASCII text version of the .msf (Multiple Sequence File) output generated by PILEUP. Insertions and deletions are shown but the conservation of residues is not. Note that residue numbering refers to the final alignment, not to any particular individual FVIII sequence.

  • GIF versions of the Postscript files referred to below: the sequence numberings for each species are shown. There are five images in all:

    1. human residues 1-598
    2. human residues 599-1194
    3. human residues 1195-1292
    4. human residues 1293-1887
    5. human residues 1888-2332
  • Postscript images of the lineup with conservation levels highlighted, by use of the DOS program BOXSHADE. There are two files: the first covers up to residue 1292 (human FVIII) of the lineup, the second covers the residues from 1293 to the end (human FVIII). Identical residues across all three species appear normally (black on white), similar residues appear as black on grey, while dissimilar residues are shown as white on black.

This lineup was generated using PILEUP from the GCG suite of programs (Genetics Computer Group: Reference Devereux, Haeberli and Smithies (1984): Nucleic Acids Research 12, pp387-395)
